René Quinton, a French biologist and physiologist, revolutionised the scientific paradigms of his time. Quinton based his scientific theory on a universal premise that became his basic therapy: rebuild the damaged cell using seawater. Quinton discovered that seawater has a very similar chemical composition to blood plasma. In 1904 the most important work of René Quinton “L’Eau de Mer, milieu organique” (“Sea Water, the organic medium”) was published and it was the starting point of the famous “Quinton Plasma”. In 1960 the “Association René Quinton” was set up in Paris, to legally defend and preserve the memory of the famous researcher.
The Fundación René Quinton, was set up in 2010 by Mr Joan Miquel Coll, the founder of Laboratoires Quinton, in order to study and carry out research on seawater for curative purposes, to publicise and promote Marine Therapy, encourage, support and/or take part in organising all kinds of sports events in general and in particular, sports events related to aviation. The Fundación René Quinton is a private non-profit-making foundation.
The foundation is governed by article 16 of the Spanish Law 49/2002 dated the 23rd of December, concerning the taxation of non-profit organizations and tax incentives for sponsorship.
In order to preserve and publicise the legacy of René Quinton, the foundation has created a small museum at its Alicante head office. This museum is home to the first ceramic filters used for cold microfiltration, old manuscripts about the progress of patients who were treated in the Marine Dispensaries, old products of the era when the Quinton products were considered to be medicine, laboratory equipment available in France at that time and quite a few other interesting artefacts, which all form part of the story of this humanist and his subsequent legacy.
The Fundación René Quinton is willing to help all natural persons and/or legal entities, as well as any institution, association, foundation, etc. that would like to join in with our venture.
